Meet the Principal
Carol Donnelly
Carol Donnelly started as a Reflexology tutor in Walmer Holistic Centre in 1991 and taught there until 1998. She then established Suaimhneas Reflexology and her Reflexlogy Diploma courses continued to be held in Walmer College and Holistic Centre until 2010. She now focuses on post graduate education and her continuing private practice.
Carol was born and educated in Canada where she earned a degree in Nursing (B.N.). She practised and taught nursing in both Canada and Australia before moving to Ireland in the mid-1970s. Carol has always had an interest in holistic and complementary therapies and began to develop these interests while raising her children. After completing an ITEC Reflexology diploma, she then went on to earn qualifications in massage, anatomy and physiology, aromatherapy, Reiki, and Indian Head Massage. She holds a City & Guilds teaching qualification in Adult Education.
From her earliest days in the caring profession Carol has always been of the belief that illness derives from more than just the physical aspect—that the mind and spirit also have a part to play. Her many years of experience in complementary therapies have strongly reinforced this original belief. She has witnessed how an illness impacts on not only the physical, but also on the emotional and spiritual side. Reflexologists treat the person rather than the illness, and Carol has seen the benefits that this approach brings, in, for example, some people with serious illness developing better coping skills.
Carol maintains a specific interest in cancer and holistic therapies and conducts workshops on this topic. She has also has spoken at a number of international conferences.
Carol is a member of the Association of Reflexologists and is also a member of the Irish Reflexologists Institute Ltd.
